Density in a Lava Lamp!

Oil, salt and water in a bottle for the lava lamp effect!

Half a bottle of water to which is added a generous amount of oil and salt, provides a nice illustration of density.

The salt becomes coated with oil and will sink because the combination is denser.
Then, as the oil separates from the salt , the oil will begin to float back up, as oil alone is less dense than water.
