History leaves physical traces. Explore Carlow and see what you can locate as to the physical traces that remain today. This is the nuns cemetry adjacant to Carlow Cathedral. Pay it a visit as it poignant reminder of the tremendous contribution the nuns made to the development of Carlow. Adjoining Deighton Hall was Carlow's courthouse. You can see how the hall had to be supported once the original courthouse was demolished. Carlow's workhouse has now been demolished. The Institute of Technology is located there now. Behind the college, you will find a mass grave which was used by the workhouse. See http://www.teachnet.ie/jfarrell/2006D/index.htm for further details. |
