Thanks.

This site is primarily a resource site. It contains two main archives of digital photographs from the town of Carlow, Ireland. The Michael Purcell archive contains photographs from over a hundred years ago. The other archive consists of photographs taken by local primary school teachers as part of a summer course on digital photography from the years 2003-2005-2006-2007. While these images are open to a wide variety of uses by different parties, the projects section is very focused on children using these images in a varied manner as possible.

This website would not be possible without Mr. Michael Purcell, eminent local historian, whose very kind permission allowed us to upload these fascinating photographs of old Carlow. However, to gain maximum use from these photographs we cannot recommend too strongly the following books from which these images were scanned. They are full of fascinating history, information and stories. They are very well written and are an essential addition to any school library. If you have any difficulty acquiring same, go to the local Carlow Library as they have copies of these marvellous books available for it's members.

Internet Safety considerations. It is essential that you preview any sites that you recommend to the children. Sites may change or you may become victim to intrusive advertising which may be inappropriate. I have found the sites listed on this site to be excellent. However, it is always best practice to constantly monitor your child's online activities. It is also recommended that in search engines such as Google that preferences should be set to strictest monitoring levels.

Day Trip Safety. All due care should be taken when brining children on a field trip. One of the main reasons that this site has been created is to make the children aware of their environment and it's history in a safe a manner as possible.
