Biochemical Reactions In The CellThis unit will look at the two main biochemical reactions that are involved in the trapping and release of energy in cells. In photosynthesis, plant cells use chlorophyll to trap light energy and produce glucose in a two stage reaction. This glucose is used to power all the chemical reactions that take place in all cells (including plant cells). The process which releases the energy from glucose is called respiration. In aerobic respiration oxygen is used to break down the sugar in a two stage process. In anaerobic respiration glucose is broken down in the absence of oxygen. |
