How to make the most of this site?
On this page there are a number of guidelines for teachers.

This site is intended as a bank of resources for teachers. There are a number of poems on the site for all ages of primary school children covering a variety of themes. To access printouts of these poems click on the downloads section - Word Documents. Also on the downloads section you will find links to download some powerpoints and also some files for Interactive Whiteboards (Interwrite Software ).
Here are a few suggestions to make and ideas for teaching the poems.

  • Record the children at the end of the week saying the poem, individually or as a group. This is a great way of encouraging children to enjoy Irish poems. They love hearing their own voices! To learn how to do this click here.
  • Invite the children to create posters of their poems in Microsoft Word & insert appropriate graphics. To learn more click here.
  • Invite the children to create powerpoints of their poem. This is a great way to re-inforce the vocabulary associated with the poem as they will need to insert pictures associated with the poem. To learn more about creating powerpoints, click here.
  • Create a photostory of the poem. Photostory is free to download & very easy to use. To learn more, click here.
  • To develop intercultural and language awareness check out the poems in other languages. There are links on the pages, where the same poem is available in other languages. Also there are some more links here.
  • Language games are also a great way of reinforcing language learnt in a poem. Check out the many language games on the Cluichí Teanga page.
