Rhythm and Pitch

When you have become familiar with rhythm and pitch separately, try putting the two together.

Here are some ways of doing this using the first two lines of the song rocky mountain (available on the PCSP website follow the links for music, then performing, then song singing)

Write down the stick notation for the tune, and then write in the names of the notes underneath.

rock- y
moun-tain
rock- y
moun-tain
rock-y
moun-tain
high

Now try the same thing with standard notation

d m d

d m d

m s s
rock- y moun- tain rock-
y
moun- tain rock- y moun- tain high

Now look at the same notes on a three-line stave ....

And now... the same thing on a five line stave

Listen to what the two lines sound like
