The purpose of this site is to provide copyright free, good quality, digital images of
some of the many historical sites to be found within a fifty kilometre radius of Carlow
town. These images are ideal for creating local history projects as recommended by the
Irish Primary Curriculum.
Click on the relevant link to the the left of the screen. You will then view an
information section containing relevant links and information on how to download
photographs. Please note that the photographs in the galleries are thumbnails and you need
to click on same in order to enlarge.
Some of these sites are among the hidden gems of Ireland. It is certainly well worth your
while to actually go and visit these historical sites. Mere photographs cannot do justice
to the true beauty and magical quality of these wondrous places.
To acquire background information on these
historical sites and buildings use any of the popular search engines. I have found in the
past that specific links sometimes go dead, which is very frustrating. Therefore, your
best option would be to enter the relevant name e.g. Altamont House, into the search
engine. Please ensure that filtering option is set to strictest level as the default
moderate option is not suitable for primary schoolchildren.
Please note that I have merely scratched the
surface as regards the wealth of historical sites to be found in the environs of Carlow.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received by me at askeabnsNOSPAM@iol.ie [Please remove NOSPAM
for correct address.] This digital archive will be added to on an ongoing basis.
