Ireland - A 20th Century Timeline
"Ireland - A 20th Century Timeline" aims to develop pupils'
concept of time and chronology through a structured exploration of the
20th century in Ireland. Taking as its anchor the changes affecting
one Irish street, this project presents a decade by decade pictorial
record of Dublin's O' Connell Street. Scene of a rebellion, the demise
of Nelson's Pillar and its subsequent replacement by the Spire of Light
and major landuse and transportation changes, the changing face of O'
Connell Street encapsulates a century of change in Ireland. Other topics
covered include News, Home Life, Discoveries and Achievements, Fashion/
Entertainment and Sport.
"Ireland - A 20th Century Timeline" is suitable for 5th and
6th class pupils in primary and/or 1st and 2nd year at secondary level.
The project provides opportunities for individual and/or group work.
